Menante (pronounced muh-NETTY) played three seasons for the Wave and is second all-time in stroke average at Pepperdine (70.98). Next month Menante will be playing for Team USA for the second consecutive year in the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup (July 1-3 in Geneva, Switzerland).
"I chose UNC because the school and coaches offer a critical balance between golf, growing as a person, academics and top-notch peers to surround my game," says Menante. "I am looking forward to joining the Tar Heel program, but I also appreciate the support the Pepperdine community gave me the last three years."
He was named WCC Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2021 and again in 2022. As a junior he led a team that featured three All-Americas in scoring (71.20) and won back-to-back tournaments at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational and the Western Intercollegiate. He shot 64-65 over the first two rounds at Valspar and won with a 14-under-par 199 total. Two weeks later his final-round 67 clinched the title at 1-under 209 at the Western, where he was the only player in the field to shoot under par.
Menante is No. 15 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (No. 9 among U.S. amateurs). He also was an All-WCC and PING All-West Region selection in each of the past two seasons, a two-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and 2021 WCC All-Academic and GCAA All-American Scholar honoree.

He's one of the best amateurs in the world and immediately makes an already strong team even better. Menante tied for 17th in stroke play in the 2021 NCAA Championship and went 1-1-1 in match play as the Wave won their second NCAA title.
He led the Wave in scoring in 2021 and 2022; his 70.74 average as a sophomore is fifth all-time at Pepperdine. That season he shot a career-low 62, followed that with rounds of 65-69 for a 14-under 196 and finished second in a playoff at the Pasadera Collegiate Invitational. That was one of three college tournaments in which he shot 14 under par.
In 33 tournaments over three seasons he posted two wins, four seconds, 13 top 10s and 21 top 20s.
Born in Reno, Nev., he attended Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad, Calif. He's played in three U.S. Amateurs and won the 2021 Northeast Amateur.
Menante provided a crucial point for the Wave in its 3-2 quarterfinal win over Carolina in the 2022 NCAA Championship earlier this month in Scottsdale, Ariz. Trailing by a hole, Menante evened the match with a birdie on 18, then gave the Wave its first point by winning his match on the first extra hole.
The Tar Heels return four starters (Ryan Burnett, David Ford, Peter Fountain and Austin Greaser) from a team that won three tournaments, finished first in stroke play at the ACC Championship, tied for first in stroke play at the 2022 NCAA Championship and advanced to match play in the NCAA Championship for the second straight season.
Burnett, Ford and Greaser all joined Menante as honorable mention All-Americas this season (Fountain was a first-team All-America in 2021).
