IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI women's basketball team battled in overtime with Central Washington on Saturday, ultimately falling by a score of 75-63 and evening out with a 5-5 record on the season.
Record Breaker
Senior Michaela VanderKlugt broke the all-time CUI rebounding record, recording rebound No. 974 of her career in the final minutes of the first half. That rebound put VanderKlugt ahead of Gitte Mejer (1990-1994) for first place in the CUI record book who had 973. VanderKlugt finished the game with 11 rebounds, totaling 979 in her career. She looks to become the first Eagle, and the second player in PacWest history, to ever reach 1,000 career rebounds in the near future. With only 31 more rebounds, she will break the all-time PacWest record (1,009).

The Green & Gold competed the entire game, maintaining the lead for 33 of the 45 minutes. However, the Wildcats made a strong push in the final quarter, forcing six lead changes and ultimately ending regulation in a 55-55 tie.
CWU's Samantha Bowman recorded 29 rebounds in the game, which is tied for the No. 16 spot in the NCAA DII record book for most rebounds in a single-game.
Despite forcing 18 turnovers in the game, the Eagles were unable to stop CWU's momentum in overtime, finishing with a final score of 75-63.
Four different Eagles scored 10 or more points in the game, including VanderKlugt (23), Jasmine Rachal (15), Katie Timmerman (14), and Lauren Richter (10). In addition to VanderKlugt's 11 rebounds, Richter came away with eight of her own.
CUI's next game will be against Dominican on Monday, December 20 at 1 p.m. back home at CU Arena.
