NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Sophomore Paula Maurina dropped a team-high 10 points as the Hartford women's basketball team dropped a 74-50 decision to Central Connecticut on Friday night. The Hawks dip to 0-10 on the season while the Blue Devils improve to 2-6.
CCSU 74, HARTFORD 50
CCSU gained an early lead, starting the game on a 12-0 run. Senior Jabria Ingram would end the Blue Devils hot start with a layup, cutting CCSU's lead to 12-2 at the 5:35 mark. The Blue Devils, who extended their lead to as much as 17 in the opening quarter, entered the second quarter leading 23-8. Both sides would trade buckets to start the second quarter before the Hawks utilized a 5-0 run, capped off by an Abby Streeter three with 5:09 remaining, to cut CCSU's advantage to 29-19. The Blue Devils regained a 21-point lead, going into the halftime break up, 46-27.
CCSU carried its momentum into the third quarter, taking a 63-37 lead into the fourth. The Hawks outscored the Blue Devils in the fourth quarter, 13-10, but the deficit proved too much as CCSU secured a 73-50 decision.
