The 26-year-old daughter of former New York Giants linebacker Brandon Short was shot and killed on Monday in Pennsylvania.

The grieving father made the announcement via Facebook.

“My heart is broken. I’ve lost the light of my life, my oldest daughter Karli passed away this morning in a senseless act of gun violence,” Short wrote. “The love she had was so pure and true. The world lost a beautiful soul. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and please keep our family in your prayers as we struggle through this difficult time.”

Not only did Short lose his daughter, he later found out he lost a grandchild as well. Karli had been five months pregnant.

“We just found out it was a little boy,” Short told WPXI. “So we lost two.”

The Allegheny County Police Department says that at approximately 10:32 AM on September 13, 2021, the homicide unit responded to a request for assistance. Karli was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous,” they wrote in a statement.

Karli was laid to rest on Saturday, September 18 in McKeesport, PA. The investigation into her homicide remains ongoing.

Short was a fourth-round pick of the Giants in the 2000 NFL draft out of Penn State. He spent the first four seasons of his career in New York before joining the Carolina Panthers from 2004-2005. He returned to the Giants in 2006 and retired following that season.

Once a Giant, always a Giant. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Short and his family.
