The Gold Cup 2021 final will take place Sunday, August 1 with USA and Mexico matching up to determine a winner. The match begins at 8:30 p.m. ET and will air on FS1.
If you’re not around a TV, you can stream the match on FOX.com/live and the Bally Sports app. You’ll need a cable subscription to access both. If you don’t have one, you can get a free trial from YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV Now, FuboTV, or Sling TV to stream the match.
USA and Mexico have been essentially trading Gold Cup titles for about 30 years now. In fact, since the Gold Cup moved to its current format in 1991, there’s only been one year where the winner wasn’t the USA or Mexico. That was in 2000 when Canada beat Colombia in the final match. Aside from that, it’s been one of the two sides taking home the championship, and the final has more often than not featured both teams.
Neither the USMNT nor Mexico have lost a game throughout the whole tournament. Mexico is the only one of the two sides to tie, ending its opening game against Trinidad & Tobago with a scoreless draw. The Mexicans have two players in the running for the Golden Boot honors as both Rogelio Funes Mori and Orbelín Pineda sit with three goals apiece, just one behind current leader Almoez Ali from Qatar.
Daryl Dike and Gyasi Zardes lead the USMNT in goals scored with two apiece. Zardes grabbed his second goal of the tournament in the semifinals with a late game-winning goal to get USA past Qatar with a final score of 1-0.
This is the seventh time these sides have met in a Gold Cup final, but history is on Mexico’s side as it’s won five of those games. USA’s only victory over Mexico in a Gold Cup final game was in 2007. The Americans won 2-1 thanks to a second-half goal from Benny Feilhaber.
