The Kansas State track team had to cut its day short on Saturday at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster Short because of inclement weather and storms.

Prior to the weather cancellation, the Wildcats were off to a hot start, recording five top-3 finishes at the meet. Those finishes came from the hammer throw, javelin and long jump competitions.

Head coach Cliff Rovelto said he was pleased with his team’s performances.

“Hammers overall were alright,” he said in a release to K-State Athletics. “Some good, some hoped for better, but not disappointed. … Long jumps in the rain were solid.”

Senior Helene Ingvaldsen briefly held the meet record in the hammer throw at 63.09m/207 but was beaten by Rice’s Tara Simpson-Sullivan later on. Ingvaldsen placed second and seniors Shaelyn Ward (3rd) and Ashley Petr (4th) also placed.

Freshman Kade McCall also took second in the men’s portion of the event with a throw of 62.40m/204-9.

Senior Taishia Price and junior Chantoba Bright finished second and third respectively in the women’s long jump event and freshman Baylee Unruh notched a personal best in the javelin (42.98m/141) to snag a fifth-place finish.

Some K-State athletes participated in the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence over the weekend. The Wildcats had representatives for the women’s pole vault and 4×400 meter relay.

Freshman Reagan Hukill surged her way into school record books with a pole vault mark of 3.66m/12-00.00 — good enough for the eighth-best all-time in school history.

The 4×400 group of junior Alex Ferguson, freshman Sydney Burton, junior Kassidy Johnson and freshman Delaney Kemp finished seventh with a time of 3:57.04.

Up next, the track team will host its first home meet of the outdoor season with the Ward Haylett Invitational running Friday and Saturday at the R.V. Christian Track and Field Complex.
