Box Score FRESNO, Calif.  - Boise State softball came up short in a pitchers duel on Sunday in Fresno as the Broncos came up short in a 3-1 game at Fresno State. Freshman Taylor Caudill capped off a solid weekend in the circle for Boise State pitching a complete game against the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.

Caudill kept the Broncos in the game against the Bulldogs Sunday holding the home side to five hits and three runs, only one was earned. Unfortunately, it was not good enough for the Broncos who dropped all three games at Fresno this weekend to fall to 19-23 overall and 10-11 in league.

"Taylor Caudill really showed up the last two days and showed great maturity in the circle," said head coach Maggie Huffaker. "She's a fighter and we are really proud of her efforts this weekend."

In 10 and two-thirds innings this weekend, Caudill struck out 12 batters and gave up only five hits and three runs, all the hits and runs came today.

For the second straight game, the Broncos out hit the Bulldogs — six to five on Sunday — but struggled to convert the base runners into more than one score as they left seven stranded.

Fresno State opened the game with an early first inning score to take the lead. Caudill then held off the Bulldogs through three scoreless innings before Fresno State extended its lead to 3-0 with two scores in the bottom of the fifth.

Boise State attempted to rally in the top of the sixth with a lone run. The Broncos' Bella Rocco sent a one-out single down the right line, followed by a Jordyn Hutchins single to right field. With runners on first and second, Alison Seng hit a double to deep center field where the outfielders ran into each other, bringing Rocco home for the score.

Unfortunately, with runners on second and third with one out, Boise State was unable to bring either runner home as Fresno State claimed the tightly contested 3-1 win to clinch the Mountain West Conference championship.

The Broncos will close out the 2021 campaign next weekend at home when they host third-place Nevada in a Friday afternoon doubleheader followed by a single contest on Saturday.
