CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state has fewer 5,000 active cases of COVID-19 for the first time since last October.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources reported 4,990 active cases in Friday’s report. The number represents a steady decline of active cases during the past two months.
There were 241 new cases reported Friday and no new deaths. Pandemic-related deaths remain at 2,792.
Hospitalizations dropped to 207 Friday the lowest number since 212 patients were reported on March 23.
The Centers for Disease Control reported Friday 57.8% of state residents 12 and older had received at least one dose of COVID-19. Gov. Jim Justice said he’s hopeful that percent reaches 65% by June 20.
