Inside Christmas-themed bar Tipsy Elf, open for a short time in Dallas’ Oak Cliff - The Dallas Morning News

A Christmas-themed bar named the Tipsy Elf is opening in Oak Cliff, promising over-the-top Instagram-worthy decor and holiday cocktails.

The shop is open Nov. 27 through Jan. 2 in a little white house in a newly-developed corner of the Bishop Arts District. It shares a patio with sibling restaurants Paradiso and Botanist. While public health officials don’t recommend dining or drinking indoors in Dallas right now due to a surge in coronavirus cases, sitting outdoors can be OK if customers are socially distanced from those outside of their own households, experts say.

The series of photos below will make you feel like you’ve been there.

Customers at Tipsy Elf are asked to stay 6 feet apart. At 75% capacity, the bar can fit 30 people indoors and 10 on the front patio. There's room for more people on a larger patio facing Paradiso and Botanist.

The bar’s cocktails have silly holiday names and some are even vegan, like Drink Up Grinches: a mix of rum and hazelnut liqueur with oat milk and aquafaba (the liquid in a can of chickpeas, which is often whipped into a milk-like foam for non-dairy drinks). It’s a play on a boozy eggnog drink.

Rebel Without A Claus is made in part from vodka, limoncello and cranberry-cinnamon syrup.

The operators say customers should watch out for two holiday guests lurking inside the bar: Larry the Elf, a naughty character who will be moved every evening a la Elf on the Shelf; and Mrs. Claus, drag queen Gloria Devine dressed up for the holidays. She will be selling JELL-O shots and posing for photos, wearing a face shield. She’s a longtime friend of the restaurant operators, says a spokeswoman.

The Tipsy Elf, Paradiso and Botanist have a food and beverage certificate from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) and are allowed to be open during the coronavirus pandemic. The Tipsy Elf is more of a bar than a restaurant, says a spokeswoman. It will also sell snacks and desserts. Menu items include Swedish meatballs called Sleigh Balls and red velvet cupcakes called Snow Good Cupcakes.

The venue can be reserved for private events.
