NEW YORK CITY: BOLD, an organization that supports Black women in the performing arts, has announced the return of its short-play festival. The virtual BOLD 2020 festival will feature works written and directed by Black women on August 14, 21, and 28 at 6p.m. ET. Free tickets are available here.

“Black women will change the world!” said BOLD co-founder Destinee Rea in a statement. “The restoration of our culture is dependent on the amplification of the Black women’s voices. In this year alone we have seen the ways Black women are using their voices to inspire, empower, and shift culture. We are in desperate need of their stories being contributed creatively, grafted into the American canon.”

The festival will feature new work written by Agyeiwaa Asante, Brittani Samuel, Chanel Carroll, Jazmine Stewart, Kristen Adele Calhoun, and Lakhiyia Hicks. The 10-minute plays will be directed by Kristolyn Lloyd, Tavia Jefferson, and Bianca LaVerne Jones. Each evening of the festival will feature two works followed by a talkback with the playwrights and directors.
